An inside look at the publication of The Final Crossing
Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in a publishing company? I’m not talking about steamy romances, editorial mayhem or illustrators playing video games. Do those actually happen?
I’m referring to the myriad of activities involved in preparing a book for publication and all the energetic, dedicated people working towards the same goal.
So, I thought you might be interested in learning about what has been happening behind the scenes with the publication of my book, The Final Crossing.
In working collaboratively with my publisher, here's what we have accomplished so far.
Manuscript submission
Front & Back Cover Design
Back Cover story description
Two Author Endorsements
Inside Cover Design
Acknowledgments
Author Bio & Photo
It's been an eye opener into what goes on to bring a book to life. Phone calls, video calls, lots of emails, questionnaires, revisions, etc. - everyone working together to help my dream come true.
After submitting my manuscript, I was asked to come up with a vision for the book cover. I wasn’t sure what I wanted but I knew what I didn’t want. Sometimes readers, book reviewers, critics, etc. do judge a book by its cover. I wanted my cover to be representative of the story and not mislead the reader. Soon I will reveal the cover design.
The story description on the back cover was equally important. It had to be brief, to the point and say enough about the story to attract readers and get them to want to buy the book.
Getting the two author endorsements was a bonus to the debut of my book. I'm so grateful to having received them. The inside cover design was another task which included the acknowledgments and my bio.
So, what's next?
Pricing
Channel Files
Distribution
Marketing
As for pricing, how much is the book going to cost? No doubt it must be affordable and within what the market dictates for the genre.
The channel files involve a review of the final materials that will be used for print and distribution.
As for distribution, we will have discussions and make decisions surrounding the process of making my book available to the public in paperback, hard cover, and eBook.
Finally, we will look at marketing strategies through book sellers: Amazon, Chapters Indigo (Canada), Barnes & Noble (U.S.), etc. as well as using new media opportunities, book reviewers, bloggers, and social media.
And of course, the all-important “word of mouth”. That’s where you come in. You may have already spread the word about the upcoming publication of my book. If so, thank you!
Feel free to share my journey with family and friends. And please drop me a line in the Comment box below. I would love to hear from you.
And so there you have it, an inside look at what we’re working on to bring The Final Crossing to life.
Until next time!
